Most puzzling Amazon book review ever

For Nicholas Freeling’s 1980 novel “Castang’s City,” featuring French police investigator Henri Castang, which I’m reading (or perhaps, re-reading, I can’t recall) I found this:
“3.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Translation

Tried to read but the awkward translation was very distracting and often left me wondering what the essence of a sentence was. Gave up reading in annoyance.”
Well, trouble is, Freeling wrote in English. Nonetheless two people found the review helpful.
